Discus eggs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So I'm trying a few different things, and if I manage to stop the eggs from getting munched, how long does it take before they hatch?

Discus eggs hatch within 3 days of being layed.......Have the fry hatch out and let them sit aroound untill the are free swimming........The fry usually eat mucus off their parents' skin..........Feeding the free swimming fry baby brine shrimp will greatly increase the growth more quickly...........

It's easy to hatch some brine shrimp, then just scoop some up and rinse them off and drop in the tank. Just wait until the fry are freeswimming.

i have three discus some of u know colors but they lay eggs alot but the eggs get white after the first day this time they lasted 2 days longer though so i was wondering why they were white is that hatching is it fungus someone thought that was it

Thanks,

My eggs usually get ate overnight so this time I put a guard over them, still got eaten so I guess it's either the black neon, or the pleco in the tank, as the discus were unable to get at the eggs.
Aw well back to the drawing board.

If your Discus tank has other fish in it, Keep the light on 24/7 until the fry hatch.. or just remove the tank mates. Even if they do make it to the free swimming stage, I doubt they would last with the Black Neons in there.

Good idea, keep the light on for the next batch. I have a plan for when they do hatch to stop other fish getting at them.
Just have to wait for the eggs now.

So the next batch of eggs were layed last night, left one light on overnight and hey presto the eggs are still there this morning, a few have turned white but at least its progress.....

If you have another tank just take out the discus place them in there add some Meth Blue so the eggs dont get fungus The eggs should start hatching after 48 hrs.
