Help my Discus are dying by the minute! I recently had a poweroutage which made the tank go crazy! All of my fish tanks temperature went down to 68 when they are usually at 80-86. One had jumped out during the power outage and one is currently on its way to Discus Heaven where the water is in pristine condition. I have 3 seperate tanks, 2 Oscars in 55 gallon, 2 Angels in 30 gallon, 5 Discus in 50 gallon. I only put my Main Center Piece Fish. The only tank that is going to Extinction is My Discus Tank! Please Help!

discus are tough to keep and everything has to be perfect, id just put the temp back up and wait but youll probably loose a few

68 is really low for discus, next time you should try warming some water on the stove (if you have gas) This is where the larger tanks really benefit, it takes a while for them to cool.

To be honest I've gotten discus in that temp water through shipping and they were fine after about 4 hours. I hope all goes well with yours. If they do survive, and should, watch for signs of disease through stress. Don't be so quick to medicate as this is stress also. Be very observant for the next little while. Slowly get the water back up to temp. Good luck...

...and do a water change.

When I first got into fish and discus, I made a real dumb mistake by doing water changes with cold water without priming it. Lost one discus and one was very sick. I kept lights off and didn't disturb them for few days and only feed enough food for those that would eat. Maybe try turning lights out and putting blanket or sheets over tank. Blankets will also help some in case of power outage.
