Discus Fish in a 55 GALLON.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A single Ac110 would be more than enough filtration for a 55 gallon, especially when you consider all the water changes you'll be doing. 1 or 2 30-50% water changes a week. You will be able to siphon out most debree so mechanical filteration not needed.

p.h out of my tap is between 6.5 and 7.0 would that be good for discus??

When you have more discus in the tank, they compete for food and eat more and grow faster and larger. If you have 6 little ones in a 55g some won't eat too much, come maybe not at all. Twenty would actually do better. Of course once they are bigger 20 would be too much.
I am not sure how else it can be solved, but one possiblity is upgrading the tank, the other - selling the fish.
I would start with many little ones, keep the nicest couple(s) and sell the rest.

Also for me the best filtration for discus was actually UGF.

UGf wont be good for me cuz i have sand. i want to use my 55, i already have a 75 and a 220. 75 is fully stocked and fish in my 220 are too aggresive to be with discus. thanx for the suggestion though

I have heard of this to, although the breeder I deal with does not support this method. Anyway that would be quite an investment. When feeding it is better to feed smaller amounts more often for grow out.

I would not use an UFG they are very inefficient.
