I have a 122 gallon community tank. I have some tetras and loaches and wanted something big that pops if you know what I mean. Would my tank be ok for 2 discus? Are they very hardy? My water comes out of the tank around 7.8 and its hard, but no ammonia or nitrates are present in it. I have a sandy substrate and a few pieces of driftwood. I'm waiting for a month and then I wil add plants and co2 injection a month or so down the road. So would a few discus work or not? If not any other suggestions for a couple larger fish that will do ok in a community?

So I just read that 2-3 isn't very good number to keep. So would 4 discus work in my 122 gallon?

discus are a social fish and do better in groups of six or more. two can be kept if they are a mated pair but will cost you. can you keep four? sure, but you may have some aggression issues.

You need to watch the temp for the other fish. Discus like a pretty warm tank.

So is 6 going to be overdoing it? I can do 82 degrees. But yeah I'd prefer a breeding pair but its probably not going to happen

6 might be overdoing your wallet but definately not the tank!
