Hiya! Just joined so figured would post a picture. Converted my reef to discus - picked up 4" guys from Hans. Little guys are growing fast already!

Need to take some more recent pics, these are a month old or so. Have stendker checkerboards, fire reds and leopard snakeskins.

And one photo when it was a reef!

Welcome. Nice freshwater setup. Love the color of the discus, real pretty. Damn that salt tank was done right!

Thanks! The reef was nice, but it was so much work and money. I sold the livestock and the salt only equipment and bought all those discus plus put thousands back into the bank. Crazy how you don't (or I didn't) quite realize how much $$ was going in until I sold it! The reef is this month's reef 2 reef tank of the month spotlight, lol. I did the writeup and pics but they waited several months to announce it so by that time it was freshwater, haha. Not sure if it's ok to link the spotlight link though.

The discus are nice but man that reef is crazy.

Did you buy most of the livestock local in the reef? I'm always looking for new stores to check out.

Are you in GIRS?

Nice read on the link, thanks.

Yep, I am in GIRS. I did get some of the stuff at the Iowa fragfests, a bit local, but most online. I really like unique corals, so much so that I was getting some of the stuff before it was listed online - I like them because they do cultivate coral that isn't seen often.

Yea... the reef does outshine the discus, but I had some medical stuff that I couldn't keep up with the reef so decided to sell it while the livestock was still nice. Using just part of the reef equipment the discus tank is almost all automated as I installed a drip system with backups that I control via APEX.

Welcome to MFK... and welcome back from the "dark side" lol

That reef tank is beautiful, but I like that discus set up a lot better.

What are you going to do with all the extra free time and money you have now that you've switched over to fresh water? ;)

Thanks for the warm welcomes! I appreciate it.

The discus are fun, I got them at 4" (fire reds at 3") but several of them are now around the 5" mark, males?, and the bodyshape has started to change to adults and they are pairing off, so that is really fun.

The reef was awesome, but there was also generally some anxiety with it as well. Seems like everyday it was "OMG, is that coral not doing well today? Will it be skeleton when I get back?" Of course 99% of the time it was just fine, but I do find myself able to sit back and relax with discus tank more.

It has been nice to save money though! I had a clam addiction.... I will probably eventually get back salty just to have clams, haha.
