Do you think my oscar, severums, blood parrot, green terror, jack dempsey and vieja would benefit from the higher protein content of discus food? The food's description states that it is also good for other demanding fish.

They're all juveniles and very young and I wonder if 50% protein food would help them grow faster than regular staple cichlid pellets? I ordered this bottle of Tropical discus gran, which seems to have great success with European breeders. They've been accepting it from the first feeding, they do seem to love it, severums even become a bit aggressive when feeding it lol.

Thoughts?

It would be good for growing them, but it cannot be a stale. Most of those SA/CA fish are largely herbivores and need a plant rich diet. The high protein is good, but the fish will develop problems if they do not have a food formulated specifically for their diet.

Perhaps mix it in weekly? I'm going to feed it just now while they're small.

That can work. The extra protein won’t hurt, as long as it isn’t too much. Once or twice a week should be fine.

Vieja and severum become more vegetarian as the age, when young the higher protein is needed, but as they get older plant fiber becomes equally important to them
Fish like JDs and GTs are omnivores so also get a larger portion of the their diet as algae, detritus and other none meaty sources.
Especially for the above species, a pellet providing Spirulina and other less meaty products is important.

Thanks! I feed them algaemax from NLS as well. As they grow up I will feed less and less protein.
