Oregon, it's part of 'Murica!
I got my very first discus today. I asked the store employee what their keep their pH at at and they said 6.5-7.0. Mine is 7.5-7.6. I asked him if I could drip acclimate it to my pH and they said it would be fine. So I am doing this now with a slow drip into a 5 gallon bucket. Am I doing the right thing?

7.5-7.6 is really high for discus but if they are captive bred in local water conditions then it should be ok, but how many did you get? discus need to be kept in shoals and will most likely be panicky and stressed by itself, and if you have it in the tank with the fish in your signature then i dont see if lasting long at all, i would either return it and do some more research, or get a new tank asap and get it some discus friends while still doing more research, discus are not a fish to dive into lightly

Its in its own tank or will be after I'm done dripping. I posted on in the discus forum but never got any replies so I tried the cichlid one, sorry. I'm pretty sure they are locally bred and I know they are not wild.

it's easier for discus to be drip acumlated from higher to lower ph, then from low to high ph. but it can be done over on simplydiscus i've read of people breeding discus in 7.6-7.8 ph. it just has to be done slow.. when I had my discus I had 7.6-7.8 out of the tap, I would age my water for 24 hours with a netural buffer.. but now i've moved on to planted aquariums.

Stunted. You didn't know he was stunted when you bought him????

Didn't know much about discus going into it but thats also another reason for returning it.
