I've had these little guys for a while, they are growing more quickly than I expected. They get fed NLS pellets, freeze dried blood worms, freeze dried brine shrimp/spirulina and 1-2x weekly frozen BW, brine shrimp/mysis shrimp. What strain are these guys? Please excuse the water spots on the outside of the glass :(

Cute orange guy. Is he pigeon blood because of the black speckles? Also he seems to have a flatter face than the others, is this normal?

Biggest one also would he be considered a high body? He seems taller bodied than the others.

The 1st one looks like a Red Rose, 2nd looks like a Blue Turquoise and the last one looks like a Blue Cobalt. The names of domestic strains vary from area to area and breeder to breeder so you might see 2, 3 or 4 common names for the same fish depending on where you go. They are all Symphysodon aequifasciatus.

Thank you :)

Orange one looks like a tangerine or possibly some type of solid red strain, hard to tell when so young and not mature. But as aquanero said names vary from region to region.

Thanks. I guess it doesn't really matter what strain they are, I like them regardless. It's just interesting to know what they are. I'll try again when they are larger :)

My 1st impression was that the top fish was a Marlboro too but the bars and peppering got me thinking it could be some type of Pigeon/Marlboro cross. I remembered reading about Rose Reds a while back. Below is part of the discription.

"THE FIRST RED ROSE DID NOT SELL TO GOOD AND DIED OUT MANY YEARS AGO. THIS ROSE RED WAS CREATED BY MR CHEW BENG TAIK IN MALAYSIA. CHEW CROSSED F1 WILD GREEN DISCUS WITH VIRGIN REDS IN ORDER TO LIGHTEN THE DARK BROWN RED COLOR OF THE VIRGIN RED. HOWEVER THIS STRAIN NEVER BECAME POPULAR IN MALAYSIA AND SOON DIED OUT!

A FEW YEARS LATER A NEW STRAIN CAME OUT RESEMBLING THE ROSE RED VERY MUCH BUT WAS BARLESS. THIS NEW STRAIN WAS CALLED THE RED SAN MERAH. IN A VERY SHORT TIME THIS DISCUS BECAME QUITE POPULAR AROUND THE WORLD. IN NO TIME SOON KITTI FROM THAILAND AND CHAI FROM SINGAPOR STARTED TO COLLECTING THIS STRAIN TO CROSS BRED IT INTO THEIR TOP MARLBORO RED LINES TO CREATE THE RED MELON AND THE RED DOLL.

AFTER THE LINES WERE STABLE AND BOTH BREEDERS WERE PRODUCEING VERY RED SOLID DISCUS. THEY NOTICED THROWBACKS IN EVERY SPAWN SOME BARLESS AND SOME NOT.OUT OF THESE THROW BACKS NON OF THEM RESEMBLED THE PB TYPE MR BUT THE SAN MERAH. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WAS MOST OF THE SPAWN SHOWED BARS. ANYWAYS THE DEMANED FOR SOLID REDS SWEPT THE NATION SO MORE BREEDING WAS NEEDED TO KEEP UP WITH THE DEMANDS.
THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS ALL THE RED BARED DISCUS THAT WERE POPING UP FROM THESE STRAIN'S. SO THERE YOU HAVE IT THE ROSE RED REBORN AND IMPROVED BUT NOT ANYTHING LIKE ITS OLD COUNTER PART."

Rose reds are a brown based fish and this fish is very much a pigeon. Some pigeons the peppering will actually resemble bars on the fish but if you look the bars are not solid but consisting of very close peppering.
Below I have pictured a young carnation pigeon male that shows peppering as bars during pairing activity.
