So, about a year ago, i had a hifin blue cobalt male and a female red turqoise that would spawn, however, this was in my 180g community, and the pleco's always got the eggs at night. So after adding some SA cichlids, i decided to move the couple to a 40g hex all by themselves to see if I could get them to spawn. It has been a month, and nothing. Water conditions are the same as in my 180, i have even added blackwater extract and raised the temp from 82 to 86, and still nothing.....any ideas or tricks?? PH is 6.6 temp is 86 feeding pellets (hikari bio gold+ ) frozen bloodworms and freeze dried krill.

How long have they been in the tank? It may take them some time to settle in. Are you sure they're male and female? Sometimes a single fish will lay eggs without a mate, and sometimes two females will pair off. They may not be a true mated pair.

Take the temperature back down to about 82F. Give them frequent water changes. Every now and then you can refill with water that's a few degrees cooler. Sometimes the temperature fluctuation will induce spawning.

Otherwise, it's a waiting game. If they get comfortable in the new tank and decide to spawn, they'll spawn when they're ready.

thats the same issue i have.. they spawned in my community 125 twice within 12 days from eachother but now they are in the 80 gal alone they dont wanna spawn..but i see the females breeding tube down.thats a good sign that shes ready. i almost had them spawn again alone...what i did was a 25% wc and when i filled it with tap water i used a nozzle and made it replicate rain... they started to do their little dance/shake but nothing....looks like they might soon... try to have the water clean as possible.... i bought cones for them but they seem to like plastic to lay their eggs....

my buddy/breeder said patience is key..... im not too patient..

also did you see the male fertilize the eggs? sometimes it takes a pair to go thru some learning pains before being good sucessful parents.

GL buddy!

So, I decided to leave their water alone for 3 weeks....did a 80% water change and within an hour, they were fanning at eachother and now the breeding tube is down.....so I guess we will see.

Yep...eggs this am :)
