Hi everyone, I need help the following pictures tell the story. I just got some Discus today and I tested the PH only to find the big diffrence in the two (my tank 7.6maybe and there water 6.2ish) im stressed out and worried there going to die now. Please if anyone can let me know what I should do please comment. The pet shop said there water was around 7 but this isnt the case. Should I be stressed out as all the PH down drops are crap never lowers it. I was told to place a wood log and peat in my tank. Can you guys please elaborate all this for me and let me know if there going to be ok for now. Cheers for any help.

You should be fine...........As long as your PH is stable you should be fine. My PH is 7.5 and I've had my discus for a long time with no problems. There are folks that keep them in the 8's. PH buffers and other products don't work well and you're more prone to swings........wood will help lower it a little bit and it looks nice.

Oh and nice fish!! Enjoy them!

It's not what pH you keep them at that is a problem, but rather dramatic changes in pH that happen to them. Drip acclimate them for a couple hours.

Thanks guys!!! Thats good to know. I test my water and its at 7.0 and staying there by the looks of it. I know this subject must come up alot with Discus so im glad you guys posted.Im off to get drift wood and remove the rocks cheers agian.

I don't even mess with the PH out of the tap and I've never had a problem with it. From the research I've done softer water is optimal, but I don't think PH is something they're extremely sensitive too, as long as the water is very clean I wouldn't lose sleep

From my understanding, as long as you don't get any rapid ph spikes your discus will be fine. Keep the water within safe parameters and you will be fine.

How long did you acclimatise them for before adding them to the tank? Curious that's all, as wlydfya said they would be fine if done over several hours. If you had no problems in the first 24 hours everything should be alright.

The best way to add new discus that I've found is to use a bucket, cover it with a towel and add a cup of tank water every 15-20 mins or so for a few hours and then net them in.

Nice discus:D
