Been thinking of getting into Discus. What would be an appropriate size tank if I wanted to merge my other s.american fish with 5 or 6 discus? Along with the dicus it would be 2 scalare, 25 cardinals, 2 apisto caucidens, and a green phantom pleco. Would a 75 be too small? Or an other possible conflicts with my current fish and the discus? If this is workable whats the lowest temp I could maintain? The tank would be in a drafty area where it takes alot of heat to keep temps up, and also for a comprimise with the others who might not do well in the usually high discus temps. Thanks for any input.

a 75 might work with large wc's and good filtration. personally, I would go for 100 gal, or more. go with at least 6 discus. the more there are the happier they will be. those fish should work, but don't know much about the pleco. bn's are fine but many plecos will suck the slime from the discus sides. discus like water of at least 82. with the angels already in the tank I would not add discus under 4". young fish need to be fed many times per day and the angels will out compete them as discus are very slow eaters.
good luck.

^ This is all good advice. I'd look on Craigslist for a 125 gallon. You can probably pick one up for not much more than a 75 gallon, and your discus would appreciate the room if they're going to have tankmates. 82 is a minimum temperature, but I always keep mine somewhere around 84 as adults. I usually keep young ones a little warmer, but keep in mind that it will also up their metabolism and so they'll eat a lot more food (but with heavy water changes, they'll also put on size a lot quicker).

Six discus is the best number to start with due to the pecking order they'll form. Anything less will often lead to aggression issues where a dominant fish or two give the others total hell. Be aware that you'll almost always end up with a runt in the group if you're raising them out from juvies, so not all six fish will turn out big and beautiful.

How large are the angels? I'd probably not mix discus with angels unless the discus were adults. Otherwise you'd have to feed pretty heavily to keep everyone happy. As 3dees mentioned, discus can be slow eaters and angels are... well... not.
