So I had a german discus tank set up but went on vacation and had my brother feed them while i was gone. Unfortunately he didn't clean the bottom or did water changes and it caused my discus to get sick and die so i lost about 600 bucks worth of germans. Now im thinking about setting up a 150 and doing asians but wanted to know what yalls thoughts were on good suppliers and how you jump start your discus tanks. Last time i used the tetra safe start stuff and didn't notice any crazy swings and the discus didn't seem to be bothered either.

Also the age old question weather to do german or asians comes up?

And general beef heart recipes would be nice as well as food and water change schedules would be great.

thanks

:( Sorry for your loss. Next vacation, fire your brother. lol If the Discus are adults, they'll be fine for 7/10 days w/ no food. Stop feeding day before you leave & do mega W/C just before leaving. Mine have gone 12 days a couple of times in the last 5 years w/ -0- problems.
As to jumpstart http://store.drtimsaquatics.com/One-Only-Nitrifying-Bacteria-for-Freshwater-Aquaria_p_3.html this works well. Great also for Bio increase in existing tank when adding several fish at once.
Germans / Asians is always personal. I know those that swear by both. Mine are Stendkers & they are real lookers.
Food & W/C's will depend greatly on the size you plan to purchase. Daily discus juvies = more food & more W/C's. Sub-adult / Adult less food less work but more $$$. "T"
