I've seen a lot on the internet about how many discus can be put into a particular size tank safely....but it differs so much from site to site. Figured I'd ask any opinions on a safe and reasonable number for a 75 gallon 48x18x18 tank?

personally i would say 6 or 8

from what i've seen the general rule of thumb is 10g per discus, so 6 or 8 is a good number, and id suggest some cory cats as a bottom cleaning crew.

8 would work if your going with a very lightly decorated tank. imo, 6 would be better. then you can add some cories and maybe a small school of tetras. I have 8 adult wilds in a 120 gal. but I have a lot of wood. discus are not great swimmers but they do need a bit of room.

Me personally, I'd go 5-6.

Thanks for the feedback. I was and now am planning on six discus based on the particular ones I wanted to buy. I will also have two clown loaches, a royal pleco, three powder blue dward gouramis and six glass/ghost catfish.......should be coming together shortly!

should look nice, idk id put something as active as clown loaches in a discus tank though personally - to each their own :)

Nix the clown loaches they are not compatible with discus plus they need to be in groups too.
