HELP ME PLEASE)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
ok now I retested it.
nitrate 60-80.
nitrite 0.0
high ph 7.2-7.4
low ph 6.4-6.6
ammonia 0.0

how much water do I need to change this is a cycled establized tank.
I just did a 50% procent water change on sunday. should I do another 50%procent water change NOW. my discus are 4.0+ inches head to tail.
I've been changing the water each weekend should I be doing it more offen?

Yes, you need to change water more often. If 50% once a week gets you 60 to 80 ppm then 50% twice a week will likely cut that in half. I used to keep my discus at 10ppm for nitrates.

thank you sir. so should I feed them a little less and do a 20-30%procent every other day. also do you perfer the flat pack of blood hearts, or the cubes to feed discus?

personally i would change water daily(25-50%atleast) so you can feed whatever, whenever you want and get a away with it. but are you doing once a week WC?? if so, i would feed them once a day and STAY AWAY from beef heart since this will rot and cloud your water. i would only feed beef heart before doing WC. :)

yeah I've only been doing 50% procent water changes because the china/asin/mantanise guy that owns and breeds discus owns a fish shop down the road from me and that's is what he said is all I need to do, and that where I've been getting my discus. should I find another shop. any of you dallas guys know of any good LFS that sell nice discus, I don't mind spending some $$$$$$$ as long as it doesn't make me go negative in the bank each month. oh and I also get fused at by my dad(yeah I know my profile says 27, so what happened to me,and why am I that old still living at home I got medical reasons, that why i'm still under my parents roof. any why my dad says.
(bla bla bla you don't need to be doing once a week, listen to the petco/petsmart fish people you only need to do 15-20% procent every 2 weeks. I want to take a white glove and slap his face with it. will some one pm me and I will give you his email address so you can write to him and say hi james I've a discus expert I've been rasing discus for "x" years and been reading his post, and can you tell him how I need to do more water changes, and that discus aren't cheap(why don't you get the little small ones that are only 13.99 and get them ship etc etc etc). thanks oh I've also got a theard in the equitment and filter section. link---------->

Aren't you on SD forum? There are very good information there already. Most LFS can't afford to do daily WC because they don't have the time nor do they feed them as often. LFS are temporary housing for fish. When it comes to discus, you need to talk with hobbyist.

You are already on the negative once you got your first discus...

huh what do you mean I'm already on the negative once you(I) got your(I) first discus? and yeah I'm on SD forum under a different user name.

just check the water, things are getting better. more of the discus are staying together,
showing more of there true color, playing. I also turned up the heaters a few degrees higher and they are thanking me for it.

Discus is an expensive hobby. I said you are on the negative because in almost all cases, the value of your discus is going to be less than what you paid for. Keeping your discus healthy has it's expense as well so that's why I said you are in the negative once you start the hobby.

aha, ok thanks! I understand what you are saying now. also what do you think about long low tanks for discus, vs short and tall tanks. I have 135G
(84x16x22?) and a few local discus people tell me it's to long and low.
I currently have 13 discus in there that are 4.0 from head to end of tail.
