I'm setting up a 40L for discus. I'd like to use two fluval 206's for filtration and sand for substrate. I was hoping to put 1 or 2 pairs. Am I missing anything? will that filtration be enough? I have a lot of experience with other fish this is just my first discus tank. Any input or suggestions are appreciated.

You'll need a lot bigger than a 40 litre for 4 discus. You'll never be able to keep them happy or even close to healthy in a tank that size. Better off going with a pair of small dwarf cichlids.

Edit, some how think you've made a typo lol.

Ops not 40 liters 40 gallon long

While your filtration would be plenty, keep in mind that discus tend to prefer quiet water (low flow). If it was me, I would do one small canister and a large sponge powered by an air pump. Water changes is just as important, if not slightly more important than filtration, so keep up with this. 50% twice a week at a minimum. Chances are, its not the ammonia that going to be an issue but rather the nitrate. Do a search on pothos filtration

If you want happy discus in that size tank I'd be going bare bottom and doing 3x 60-70% changes per week. Serious keepers and breeders swearby 50% daily changes.
