What are acceptable tankmates for a discus? I have 2 angels, 1 ABK, a pleco a peacock eel, skirt tetra and 3 otos. Will a discus agree with these fish? Would a discus coincide well with tetras, zebra danios and mollies? Will the water params clash between these fish and the preffered water params for discus fish?

Hi Kyle..
Sounds like you are just beginning to think about discus..
I think first of all you need to do a lot of research and reading.. both on this forum and on the site simplydiscus, a site dedicated to these beautiful creatures.
While discus are not the fragile fish some people think they are, keeping discus is much more of a commitment than keeping your average tropical fish. A lot depends on the size of your tank, the size of the discus and your commitment to water maintenance schedules etc.. So read read read and then if you feel up to the challenge go for it. Find a good local breeder, buy at least 5 discus, always qt everything and have fun. They are a very rewarding fish to keep and will give you years of pleasure. If you have pairs form they are really fun to watch as they spawn and raise young..
Good luck whatever you decide to do. HTH Sue:D

they will do well with the angels, the pleco and the ottos

If this will be your first experience with discus, forget about tank mates, and do a species tank with nothing but discus. It will be much easier to take care of, so your discus will be healthier.

Thank you for you replies. I was at a new (to me) LFS today and spotted a tank with discus. I've seen them around before but never found them so close or cheap. He claims to have his own farm and raises everything in his store and distributes to other stores. I am new to the idea of keeping discus and would LOVE to keep some......but I now realize I don't really have the ability to do so. I keep my tank spotless (I have sand for substrate so fishy poo piles up quick....gets cleaning daily) and I have a massive canister filter in my 34gal tank. Heres my main problem....financing. I simply can't afford so many expensive fish. College can be tough on the ol' pocket book. If could've kept one or two together, I might've considered it (after more research, of course). Perhaps someday though....
