can you mix angels and discus together in large planted tanks
i'm new to discus and hope to have some soon was wondering if i could add some altum angels if i can find some.also are cory cats egg robbers

Some people have had success with angels and discus but imo angels are to aggressive for discus and may stress them, as for corys I have not had much experiance so I cant help on that one.

You could, but it would be best if the discus were adults for a number of reasons. Juvi discus are best left out of a planted tank anyway. Go with adult discus. As far as Altums go, you are probably better off quarantining and acclimating them in a bare bottom tank for several months anyway. They don't seem to ship well, and die off over a period of time. The ones that survive are good to go into a display tank. I don't think corys are that good of a fish for a planted tank as they may dig up some of plants, especially if it is heavily planted. Most varieties of them don't take well to elevated discus temps. anyway.

I have 6 peppered cories and a 10 strong pack of of sterbai cories in my planted tank and they have never uprooted or moved any of my plants. the temp is 84 degrees. the cories have been in the tank for about a year. I have a dwarf sag lawn in my 180 along with other easily uprootable plants. I also have angels in there as well and i have had no problems what so ever. There is 3 pairs of angels that lay eggs regularly along with a pair of brilliant turqs that lay eggs too. They all keep to themselves and everybody gets full when i feed my bison heart mix, prime flake, bloodworms, veggie pellet mix and a meat eaters pellet mix from angels plus. I feed 6-7 lighter feedings a day.

if the angels are breeding don't add discus they will attack and probably kill the discus protecting their eggs It is best to keep svereal discus with only 1 angel so the angel will not breed and get territorial

i have had no problems for over a year. If the discus had any stress they would not lay eggs and they do every week. As i sit here and stare at my tank 1 of my angel pairs are laying eggs and 2 of my discus are about 6" away watching:) but other angels are quickly chased off.

I wouldn't put angels that were bred in South East Asia together with discus.
Since you are considering altums that will not be an issue. I would fear for the altums more than the discus. Their immune system is frightfully fragile.
