i have a 60gal discus tank quite heavily planted with 400gal an hour filtration (but done in a way that doesnt cause a lot of water movement or turbulence) and a lot of biological filtration. its been up and running for almost a year now with out any incidence.
i went away during Christmas and my house mate fed them. i have five discus between 2 and 5inches, one blue diamond, one giant turquoise, one malboro red one red and one blue and red hybrid.
the malboro has not been growing like the others and when i came back from holiday she was paper thin. i think she was being bullied away from the food. i have been feeding them carefully and she is eating till her tummy is bulging but she just doent put on weight. why could this be?
and my giant turquoise which is only slighty the largest is so concearned with gaurding the food nets that he doesnt seem to eat enough and is getting thinner.
i noticed a while back one had intestinal infection or parasites and dosed the whole tank twice since then with internal and external medictaion. what could be causing these two fish to "waste" away like this?
my water parameters are fine as the malboro and the turquoise have paired off and laid eggs a coupla times, except recently. i do a 30% water change at least once a week and feed them a little tetra discus bits in the morning and then frozen brine shrimp at night put into the food nest to thaw where they can then eat it through the net.
i also have 7 flying foxes for algae control(but they are about as useful as an udder on a bull) and two humbug catfish to clean any leftovers on the gravel. all these fish have been medicated together.
hope this is enough info to help and any advice will be greatly appreciated.
thanks
