Which do you prefer? I myself like the easier acclimation of the man made strains and the varieties.

Depends on what tank setup you have...my pet peeve is people setting up a biotope tank and then adding domestic strains of discus. Those fish have never seen a piece of wood or plant in their whole life, just unnatural to me. Want nature, put wild discus in a tank like that. Want a bare bottom tank, domestics would be just as happy.

^ Agreed. Anyone that ever saw any of my posts or pictures of the fish I keep know I love the wilds both Angelfish and Discus.

I've always thought a Biotope type tank with tannen stained water and a beautiful tangle of drift wood with neon colored discus doesn't appeal to me. The hobby has many options and everyone as a preferance, there is no right or wrong when it comes to what you like to look at just personal perferance.

not much difference in wilds vs domestics. imo, keeping domestics in a biotope is'nt any different than in a planted tank. most domestics have been raised in bare tanks so it's really a moot point. I think wood just looks better with all discus but a group of blue discus in a planted tank looks pretty awesome. wilds are no harder to acclimate than any other fish. the way I acclimate all my fish, including my wild discus shipped to me is place unopened bag in tank to equalize the temps. open the bag, net the fish, and drop them in the tank. I have been doing this for years and never lost a fish. a fish will not acclimate to a different ph in an hour or two or three. I think that getting them out of the bag and into your nice clean tank water is the best thing for them.

 I guess like anything beauty is subjective. Nothing against the 'original' wild discus. Would love to own some one day but for now colors are my passion.......

 Thanx. Yes it is. Although it seems to be aging more toward a beautiful 'orange'. I still love it so. "T"

This is my set up I prefer the color also. I know I need more I'm going to get probably 1 or 2 red melons, a yellow tang, and add some Cory cats. Then I'm going to ditch the platys and most of the baby redhead geos and I'm done.

beautiful fish moneygetter1. rook45, a yellow tang? I wish I had room for a tank of domestics, but I'm pretty happy with my wilds.

Dayam 3d that's a sick looking setup you got there! Yeah yellow tang discus. Bred by Tony Tan picture via the angelfishusa.net website not sure if this strain will "pepper" in my black on black tank. If it doesn't I think it'll look great in a dark tank I'm not sure if this strain has pigeon blood in it.
