Discus with Gar.

I have a 48x24x24 tank that I have some gar in. I have kept discus before and I got to thinking. Has anyone everkept discus and gar together? Or discus and bichirs?

These fish are very similiar in there manorisms sort of lazy, they both want hi oxygen slow moving water. Anyone think this would work out? I would more then likely get wild discus in the 5+ inch size. Ive seen Discus with a black arro.
 
my experience with bichirs has been shaky. my first bichir took a bite out of my aro's eye. (and ate the eyeball).

-so just be careful with bichors i guess since they like to bit. And i think they are nocturnal and may stress the discus art night.

-gars? im not sure. ive kept an arowana with my discus just fine. but thats bc i raised them all together though
 
I really wouldn't keep discus with gars. Even though they like sort of the same types of conditions the temps that discus like will eventually cause your gar to grow at an amazing rate. My biggest concern would be if you ever have to treat your tank, since gars don't really do well with medications especially with your wild discus. Now I'm hoping your discussing florida gars because gators and tropicals will most likely turn on their tank mates when they are bigger. Sometimes gars just snap and go on a killing frenzy without warning.
 
yeah. I have two florida's. I actually keep the tank in the high 70's and have kept it in the 80's. Not a bad point about growth rate. I thought about the temp but didn't think about it that way.

My bichirs havn't caused me any issues like that yet, just ate what they could easily get in there mouth.
 
i have 6 bichirs about 12"+ and one discus about 4-4.5" and have had no problems at all they are in a smaller tank which I've been meaning to upgrade. 72g. every fish is different though so i guess it just depends on your luck. but i have been wondering the same about gars. currently looking for a florida gar and would like to put him in the same tank but don't know how well he would do with my discus
