hey im planning to set up a 30 gallon tank with a pair of discus.A keeper told me it would be fine because they need 10-15 gallons each.can another discus keeper give me some tank conditions such as ph,temp, and more. this what i was planning to do

Ph:6.8
Temp:84-86
Blackwater
tetra whisperer filter
discus flakes and pellets
plants
3 corydoras

would this be great?

In order to house only 2 discus in a tank like that you need an actual breeding pair...otherwise one will become dominate and the other runted. Also, remember that discus can reach a size of 7-8" if given a proper diet and care. 2 fish that big in a 30 gallon tank can be cramped, especially if you want to have a few other fish in there as well (cory's). So, I would say no...it will not work. If you want discus, I recommend a bare minimum 40 gallon tank and a minimum of 4 discus. This will spread aggression and will result in a more "friendly" tank, especially for you.

:iagree: A 55g would be better than 40g.

For a single breeding pair I dislike the footprint of a 55...it's too narrow (12"), I much prefer a 40 gallon breeder tank. I would not reccommend just 4 Discus either...I'd have at least 6 and go for a 75 gallon tank minimum.

The best tip I could give to anyone who is new into Discus would be to buy the biggest tank you can possible afford. If you are successful with Discus, it's only a matter of time that you will want more Discus.

Good Luck,
Sue

Many people may disagree with me but, i keep my discus at 8ph! They do wonderful and a temp of 84.2F ! Hoped this helped a fraction!
