Ok, here is the stand I built from plans I found on a reef site. I like the stand (temporary) but I didnt like having to toenail in the screws for the vertical 2x6's. Check it out and has anyone used this plan? Any feedback on pros and cons would be great.
Stand for a 220 gallon tank using 2x6 douglas green fir. 69"x22"x32"
Thanks,
Rob.

Do not worry about the tonail screws, they will be fine. I use a method similar to that when i build stands. I would say that you are good to go on this stand, especially since you used douglas fir. If you are worried, you could put a verticle middle support in the fron and you are going to be fine.

looks a lot like the stand i just built for my 75

Thanks for the replies. I would have rather used 2x4's. My refugium is going to be hard to get out of there if I ever need to do work on it. It makes it, just very close. I am pretty comfortable with the stand itself, just the verticals are not the strongest point here.

Verticals will be fine. Wood is a lot stronger than most people give it credit for. I wouldn't worry at all.

Hey there, can you direct me to those plans you mentioned? I'm needing to build a stand for a 5x3x3 tank.

Looks nice and sturdy to me.If you wanted to go nuts on it you could put a
2x4 inside each corner to tie the top and bottom together.

Those plans go way overkill o building stands. But there is no doubt that they will hold. You could use way fewer verticle supports.

When screwing, adding construction adhesive, will significantly strengthen a joint.
