My fish, especially my P-Bass has contracted something from my feeders (check "Biggest Mistake" post for the story:() and I'm not sure what it is. I have never had this before. I'm positive it isn't Ick. I have started salt and Formalin/Malachite Green based on a guess of protozoan parasite. I plan on adding Melafix today as well.

Can someone identify this? Any input as to a better way to treat?

It's kinda hard to see, but it looks like he scraped his head on something. Just add salt and keep the temp at/or 85. And keep water clean.

Water is crystal clear and tests spot on. I haven't had any water issues for a long time. It's definitely not a scrape, and it has slightly improved from yesterday although it's not great at all. I know the pic doesn't do the water quality or identifying the disease any justice, but it's the only camera I have. Thanks for your input!

Hello Aquafreak. IMO, looks like a fungal growth and as well Ick. I can see white small spots on its finnage to me thats ick. The growth on its head and gill area looks to be Saprolegnia and or Achlya Fungal disease. Is the growth cottony? Is it only white? Does it look like algae is growing on it? You're treating acurately with malachite green. I also suggest treating with Melafix AND Pimafix but in HALF dosages. In addition salt and high temp should do the trick. Sometimes its best to do a salt bath but from the looks of your pbass I would not. The additional stress more then likely will do more damamge to it. Is it eating anything? If SO I HIGHLY suggest soaking your food (preferably frozen foods) with Garlic Gaurd. It will assist in the treatment process and in its immune system. You can find this product usually at any Petsmart or Petco.

EDIT: Make sure you put an airstone to aerate water and improve oxygen. Higher temps will dilute disolved oxygen.

Keep us posted and good luck.
