Hey,

As some of you may know i've been having problems with a bacterial infection in my tanks. Well in my 50 i had one channa asiatica that was dying slowly. I was treating it with AP triple sulfa but it just seemed to be getting worse. First it was just his tail fin that was disintergrating, then it moved up to the base of his tale finally i woke up this morning and he was dead. :swear: :swear:

I still have 5 clown loaches a couple of tin foil barbs and a hujeta in there. Whoe all seem perfectly fine. One thing i'm worried about is the clown loaches were nibbling on the fish's open wound. Will the disease spread to them? I also want to disinfect the tank now but i'm not sure how to go about doing so. Do i have to take all the fish out and drain all the water, clean the filter media? Please advise...

Thanks

When I need to disinfect my tanks I take all fish out and leave the existing water in the tank.

I then put 1-2 spoons of Potassium permanganate in the water and let it sit for 24 hours.

Then I drain and refill the tank.

Just be careful not to spill the water on the floor or on yourself...it will stain...

should i leave the filters running? Coz won't that kill all my biological filtration as well?

I didn't run it through my filters.

I just cleaned them out and left them in the sun for a bit.

I ended up just starting from scratch again.

ya... i think it will be the best to start from scratch again... cos u can never be sure where is the source of the "outbreak".
