Hi,

how do i disinfect my tank?>
i'm going to drain my tank , what would be a good disinfectant?
my fish died because of some white growth. and now the filter ALSO has some white growth, so i have to disinfect before putting new fish.

what would be a good disinfectant?

thanks.

19 parts water to 1 part bleach is a goodie
rubbing alcohol works well

the only thing that ever plagued me was ich and i only used hot water.

I have used Vinegar before. It worked well for me.

yeh i recomend hot water and vingar make sure u rinse well after disefecting thing dont want the cure for 1 problem be the the cause of other problems

I use potassium permanganate.

Only takes a couple of tea spoons or so.

I use vinegar too, outdoors tho. Smells like *#%@!
Then I lay the tank on its side & rinse with the garden hose.

HOt water and vinegar.

I've never had to use anything except for just plain water.... i usually hose down the tank and filtration unit real good and wipe it down with a towel or cloth, then just let it completely dry out on its own for 3-4 days. Then before i use the tank again i hose down the tank and equipment really good again to get rid of all the dust or anything thats in it.
I just assume that once everything dries out then it will kill all the harmful diseases or anything that would cause problems.
*Now do you mfks think this is a good idea?? Or is there still a risk? Please let me know.
