Dissease, Malaysian Trumpet snails

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is there anyway that trumpet snails can carry disseases that can be transmitted to my fish? I have 2 adult oscars that eat anything, a CK, Jag, 2 plecos and a Con. I have sand as substrate and really hate stiring the sand as it makes the tank clowdy for a day or so. I read that they constantly tunnel their way thru the sand in search of food and break open and release these pockets of bad gasses. Makes my job a lot easier. Does anyone have any info or expirence with this? Thanks

They shouldn't bring anything into your tank.

MTS are in my 75 which has a sand substrate and do a great job of keeping it stirred up. The fish don't seem to bother them since they are under the sand most of the time. Start with 10 and soon you'll have 100's!

Howdy,

great choice  I also have them in my tank, and they keep my 6'' of sand in perfect condition.

The possibility of introducing disease into your tank is always given. If by nothing else then by the water you inevitably introduce into your tank with those snails (I assume you will not dry them out before you throw them in ;)). Exception: If they come from a fish-free tank.

In general, I would not worry about it too much. But if you want to be very very safe, they need to undergo quarantine. Might be overkill, but the only way to be 100.00 % certain

I think it's possible but unlikely. I would like some, but my loaches and other fish always eat them.
