Has anyone ever heard of or has bred Distichodus, especially Sexfaciatus? I know they are one of the few African Characins available, but does anyone know much about them from personal experience?

My one is at the 6" range at the moment - has tussles with my big clown loaches, but nothing serious yet!

Being hormone induced regularly in Thailand and Indonesia. I had a try myself but I didnt have enough broodstock and they were a bit small at the time. I love them!!

Wouldn't they have to be about the size of mine - between 5" and 7" - to be of breeding age? And how many would you need. Any ideas on sexing them?
I'm only curious about this as I've only ever seen 3 others for sale here, and they were only just over an inch long. Cute as hell though! My one is called Rothiemurchus (Scottish name) and Rothie is a real character. I'm getting a bigger tank just for him and my Clown school. Got to look after them fishies......

6 inches would barely be breeding size and hormone inducing is a lot harder than most people expect. The more fish you have to choose from the better your chances. There are so many variables so lots of experimentation and hit and miss trial and error is initially required. If I had a pool of 20 adult (40-60 cm) broodstock, that would be better.

POOL being the operative word. Just think how many gallons you'd need to house that lot! So at 6" they are still only juveniles?

I have a 13" that is only 10 months old. It's a real beauty. I'd say that 6-7" is definitely juvie still.
