Distichodus sexfasciatus

Distichodus sexfasciatus or SixBar Distichodus

Can Anyone offer infomation on these species of fish i've seen one at my LFS and i'm considering buying it, but don't know an awful lot about this speceis of fish, i know it's african found in the congo regions.

i just wanna know there temprement with other fish, there growth rate, what they eat, you know.

I just bought one last week. Its 2'' long and I have it in a heavily planted 30g with 4 juv pike cichlids. So far It has been mellow, but I hear that they tend to be aggressive bastard fish, esp to their own kind. They grow to like 15'' or so Im told. There is another thread on them from last week in this forum with more info and a killer picture of a distochodus skull that shows the beak they possess.

mins a chaser it chases everything and its only 2.5 inches in a 55 gallon tank. its nips the fins off of my plecs very aggressive

Distichodus sexfasciatus = DS = Dumb Sh_t...LOL
They grow much bigger then 12"
Depending on individual, can terrorize their tankmates

beautiful fish, but very annoying to keep with other fishes.

they'll get pretty big, and will nip other fishes.

I had a motoro ray seriously injured by one.
