I have a 8-10" Jaguar Maguanese (sp?) I purchased about a month ago. I put her in my hospital tank as I noticed her eye become cloudy. She was hiding by the internal heater frequently and I'm not sure if that has something to do with it as it is the right eye that was next to the heater?
The cloudiness has gone away but her pupil is distorted. It is not round, the upper part is "growing up" into the top part of the iris so that you cannot see the color.
I can post a picture.
As far as tank info, whew that's a lot to post.
I had her in a 100 gallon with a 12" Tiger Oscar, a 6" tin foil barb, and a pleco. Put them all in at once, she hid behind a large rock by the heater most of the time.
I have kept fish for 7 years and have never tested pH, nitrates, ammonia, etc. I do regular water changes and use Grapefruit Seed extract drops. I've never had a sick fish or a fish die until I moved to a new house and had to figure out the new tap water. I've never had ick, fungus, etc. issues.
I use "backpack" filters, my 100 gallon tank has a double and a single filtering it.
I keep the temp about 78°.
Artificial plants.
Let's see, what else....The Jaguar is in a 20 gallon hospital tank. I'm doing frequent small water changes, adding salt, and Malawi pH powder, and grapefruit seed extract. The cloudy eye gradually got better in about a week.
I'm feeding her large Cichlid pellets, 3 or 4 once a day. No substrate so I can keep the tank clean, and one large rock ornament so she can hide.
Any ideas on the pupil?

This is interesting. Have you actually noticed the black creeping up the iris?

This could be a partially detached iris, or loss of pigment in the iris for some reason. I think we can see the circumference of the lens well, and it appears to be normal, but it's tough to tell from the pics. This makes me think that this isn't the pupil that is "growing up" into the iris, but rather the iris is losing/changing pigment.

Is it possible to get a clearer photo up close? Can you also take a picture of the other eye for comparison?

Thank you for your reply.
I am not sure if the eye just started looking like this or not, honestly I didn't notice anything was wrong until her eye got cloudy.
I have taken a few more pictures for you, they are a "little" clearer.

Yeah, we can see the outline of the lens which appears normal, indicating the iris is still connected normally to the lens. In other words, the pupil isn't "growing up" into the iris.
It looks like the layers covering the brown/black pigmented cells at the back of the iris have been disrupted. I'm not sure what would have caused this, but perhaps keeping the eye close to the heater was what did it. I'm also not sure what the consequences of this will be in the future.
