I wonder why africa is completly free from any Alligatoridae. You have them in the americas and one species in China. Africa and Latin America were once connected. You have true crocodilians in eurasia, africa, australia, the americas. Alligator sinensis proves, that the family of the Alligatoridae evolved before pangea breaked apart and it is obvious that they had to inhabitate africa to reach asia (see Ctenopoma and Channa/Parachanna). The same problem can be seen at member of the Boidae. You have boas mainly in the americas while the old world is inhabitated from python. But there are 3 species of boas on madagascar. Were true crocodilians able to push the alligatoridae into extinction in africa and most of eurasia? Why didn´t that happen in the americas?
