Here.
Hello everyone,

I just picked up a 150G less than a month ago, but I soon realized that this can not house a fully grown aro. Heck, people recommend 300G+ for the life of an Aro. Unfortunately 180G is all I can fit in my house and that will have to do for my Blk Aro. Plus, I bought a $500 72" Power compact light for my tank so it isn't feasible for me to get anything any longer.

What do you guys think.... should I just do the swap now and save myself the trouble later? Since it'll be harder moving a 12"+ Aro compared to the 7-8" size he is right now?

Like always, personal experiences are ALWAYS welcome.

to be honest i have seen silver arowana's 24"+ in 55gallon fish tanks yur good to go in a 150 until hes easly 20" i would say, i have had over 30 arowanas in my day and i have a monster red asain in a 125g with other fish an he is perfectly happy

You bought a $500 light for your tank? That's crazy.
I'd wait awhile before doing anything tank-wise. But if you've got the money to spend $500 on a light I'd say you can get a special order 6'x3' tank.

Yeah, I bought a Current USA 72" Power Compact + Moonlight for a 24 hr total lighting solution. I figure I would be able to use it for the rest of my aquarium "hobbying" life (unless it breaks of course).

I'm by no means REVELLING in money, but I like to make wise one time long term durable goods purchases.

I concur.

It'll take him a long time to get big also, blacks tend to grow more slowly than silvers or jardinis. 150 should be good for a couple years and if something happens and you move and can afford a bigger tank, there ya go! I agree with what the other posters said about your light also, it'll work just fine on an 8 foot tank.

I would go with the 180g, the 24" of depth/width makes for a better looking tank. My black I've had for almost 3 years is only 20" long and would be fine in a 180g, but I'm sure she is much happier in the 450g.

There have been members on here that have had their blacks grow to 30" just as fast as silvers grow. If your black is as such then neither of those two tanks will suffice.

Tough choises. Cause If I purchase a 180G right now, my 150G has to sit outside. I'll have to sell it and in this economy... things are going to move real slow.

no offense, but i'm still trying to get over the $500 light . . . some of that could've went towards a 180 gallon tank.
