I am currently in the process of making a DIY wet/dry. Seeing as how my tank water level is low (55 long, 4 inches from the top), and I have an extra pump laying around, would it be okay to NOT use an overflow and just attach the pump to the PVC pipe going to the sump? BTW, my sump is a 10g, and my tank can hold a lot more than that in case a back-siphon occurs.

I would worry about the return pump failing or getting a block, and the pump in the tank emptying it completely.
If you were to try this, I would position the pump so that it isn't more than a few inches below the surface in the main tank just in case.

no, it will never work. both pumps would have to pump the exact same flow rate, and all the time. do not attempt to achieve this, you will be asking for major problems.
It should work just fine as long as you can fit the 55 gallons from the tank into the 10g sump. The fish might not be happy at that point though.meanbestorque;2799777; said:
