I have a group of 7 victorian cichlids and want to add some fish to bring the vics out more. What do you guys reccommend? I was thinking about some dwarf rainbow fish or some cyprinids. My tank is a 40 gallon by the way. Thanks.

I would put in some rainbows cichlids. You would get a really nice contrast in color and you would have a very nice looking tank. I also think that rainbows will bring out the victorians alot.

I had giant danios, but they were fed to our turtle, my brother used to have a community tank, until I got him obsessed with victorian cichlids. By the way my fish are 2 inches, I'm afraid giant danios would nip fins. I want something small, 3 inches max, not too big and very peaceful.
uhh i think you mean the other way around your africans would tear up rainbow cichlids there pretty peaceful

My vics are haplochromis ruby greens, the most peaceful victorian, they won't bother other cichlids, unless it was in their territory or has similar coloring. They only get up to 4 inches the max and I'm just afraid that the rainbow cichlids will breed and take the whole tank to themselves. That's why I don't want american cichlids with my africans. Anyways, thank you guys, I'll get a group of 6 rainbowfish.
I was talking about Rainbow cichlids but Rainow fish would also work very well for the same reasons I stated aboce. Good Luck and keep us posted.
Id say silver dollars if the tank was bigger,40 is tight for just the cichlids.Maybe a bunch of zebra danios?
