Dither Fish For Festae

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
SDs are my fav. Get 5 or more, they all look the same so the Festae wont constantly pick on 1 fish. SDs are fast as well so they can get the h%^$ out of the way. I've also used Odessa barbs, they are stupid fast, they school, and look awesome as they mature.

I use non-aggressive Tilapines with my festae. "Not" something like Tilapia buttikoferi or mariae, but more benign species such as T. niloticus or Saratherodon linnelli. Although these don't school, they do shoal, and can provide a bit of the security that some cichlids need to feel at ease. These also grow a bit too large to become snacks.

I have also used Oreochromis tanganicae with other large cichlids to bring them out of their shell, they also aren't too shabby as adults on their own.

sorry double post.

I tried adding a shoal of 6 silver dollars to my 125 gallon with my 6 inch male festae, 6 inch male red devil, 5 inch male midas, 6 inch male carpintis, 6 inch female jack dempsey, 5 inch female blood parrot, 6 inch male synspilum, 4 inch male and female pink fens, 4 inch male kamfa flowerhorn, 3 inch male kamalau flowerhorn, 5 inch male grammodes, 14 inch male albino tiger oscar, 4 inch male flier cichlid, and all 5 of my bigger catfish (4-10 inches). They were perfect until I turned the lights out. Came downstairs the next morning and found 1 left alive... Back to the store he went. Same thing happened when I tried giant danios, giant comet goldfish, and tinfoil barbs.

That's a lot of fish in a 125. You make me feel good! I thought my 125 was overstocked. If this is working maybe I can add more! I have 10 SD's in my tank w a ~10" jag ~10" oscar and ~8 polleni they r all fine. I did add a small sd to add to the school but the next morning he was gone. Other than that my SD's have been golden.
