woke Up today and my rbps looked like this. nipped fins and all.. i had a big driftwood with hiding spots and I noticed them fighting over spots so I decided to take my driftwood out and for the past hours they’ve been shoaling together..so idk if that solves it. can I put dithers in there to ditract them?

may have to feed religiously 3x’s per day until 4”-5”

smaller ones like to eat each other...

I’m growing them out in a 40g since they’re only 1.5”-2 right now. Theres 5 of them, hoping I’ll end up with 3-4 after a year. will tiger barbs be ok?

Adding dither fish will just be a distraction to the inevitable. I find with a shoal it’s hit or miss with growing them out and their aggression. I would say lower tank temp, add in an extra meal or larger meals, add a power head or if possible upgrading the tank.

Thanks for the advice:) temp is down to 77.5 now, no more hiding areas and now they’re staying together which I don’t see often before, So I’ll find out Tomorrow if it got worse overnight. To be honest I didn’t expect keeping rbps this much work. It’s like everyday ur hoping to wake up with no casualties. Fish keeping should be fun but this is getting ridiculous. Lol

i love the p’s but they are work and commitment, vacation, nope... miss a feeding .... dead tank mate....

easy would be a non aggressive community tank or solo fish - just feed and forgot about it -

this is my 2nd tank all my life and initially I wanted a red wolf fish but I read a lot about how they are stagnant and just move once in awhile so that turned me away. Then I wanted exodons, i was gonna get them but the store only had 10 I wanted a large school.. wasnt patient enough wait so I drove to aquascspeonline and got rbps. I didn’t expect that aggression that I read about them is more than I expected which is catching me off guard. so I kinda regret it but I’m not the type to give up their pets, and never have so I’ll just sit tight and buckle up lol. Thanks for the advices u guys help me a lot. Update: added tiger barbs to hopefully distract them and let them heal their fins2FD5CAC8-FF14-4FE2-998E-FB3E862948DE.jpeg

Piranhas aren’t exactly the crazed, fast moving fish they are made out to be.
The tiger barbs should be good until they are small enough to be food, which should be within 1-2 months based on piranha growth rate. It’s completely normal for them to beat each other up, that isn’t something that will ever go away. Most important is remembering to keep the aggression in check by keeping them well fed.
