i guess tiger barbs arent good dithers. i got 5 tiger barbs and my firemouth is still being shy. ever since i gave away my pleco. but i think he is trying to eat them. its pretty funny. i am going to get a few small tetras and see if that'll do the dither thing, mixed with the tigers.

I would just get some feeder guppies, or feeder minnows depending on the size of your firemouth...My g/f threw a dozen feeder minnows in her tank with firemouths, cons, jack dempsey, green terror (itty bitty), and a blood parrot, and they all ate some instantly, and ever since they have all been free swimming and not just hiding under the driftwood or in the corner.

good luck though, personally I just think the feeder guppies and such would be cheaper than the tetra

Yeah, go with small feeder goldfish or something. Perhaps some quick barbs might do the trick but they could also quicky snatch up the fry.

Just give it some time. When your F.M. Sees that the barbs do not scare he will tend to "stick around" more and more. Thats what "dithering" is. I'ts not like a light switch more a slow process for you and the fishies....

i got 5 giant danios 3" for your firemouth if heys still lonely..lol:ROFL:

I'd get some more firesmouths if it were me. They don't do much damage to each other just flare their gills. Give them some hiding places and enjoy.

In my experience the way to avoid shy fish is having previously established fish in the tank upon introducing new the fish. Obviously this isn't always possible, but when it is it works great.
