I've ready many threads here on how to get your NGTs to come out a little more. My NGTs were pretty shy from the day I got them. They had some Clown loaches to keep them company. Unfortunately they just hid amongst my labrynth of driftwood. Only peeking out their noses when it was feeding time. I tried this for a month and they never got comfortable enough to swim about the tank.

Last week I bought some dithers for them.. Of course not small enough to eat. I picked up 3 silver hooks and 4 apollo sharks. These guys do a great job of schoaling together. The day after they were introduced to the tank, my clownies started free swimming around the tank. That was cool. Several days after that my Dats started to come out too.

Now they swim around for a few minutes and retreat back to their hiding place. It's fun to watch them and I'm glad they're slowly coming out of their shells. I appreciate the advice given on this board.

Good to hear, it amazes me on how well this works for shy timid fish.

kinda work for my NTT too.. I dumped all my fishes from the 25G to the NTT tank.. he comes out a bit more often than hiding the same spot

My dats in my 180 gallon used to get scared alot when they had no other tankmates then i added 2 catfish, 3 large silver dollars and 6 red hooks and now the dats dont stop swimming. Glad it worked for you.

i put in an aro with the dats and now all the dats are swimming happily

Congrats! i also use tinfoilbarbs last time to get those ITs to swim out :)

Same here...tinfoils seem to work best for me. They mainly distract my Jardini and AT from snapping on everything else in the tank, but there is no question they have helped in getting them to eat the prepared/frozen foods.
