I can not decide for the life of me what to do about dithers in my CA/SA 125g tank. I Was planning on doing SD's, but they get so big and will just add to the load of the tank. Plus they kind of take away from the show fish.

Would clown loaches fit the role as 'dithers', or no? I know they are primarily bottom feeders, but im just trying to find reasons not to have to get SD's. (i hate giant danios). Or do you have any other suggesstions for dithers that could stand up to aggressive ca/sa?

Will include
1 vieja argentea
1 GT
1 Herichthys turquoise
1 salvini
Sajica pair

I know some people use convicts as dithers, what about jewels? Anyone have any experience with a group of say 6 of these??

btw fish will all be between 1"-2".

i know you said u dislike SD's but they are the ultimate dithers imo 2nd being giant danios

normal silver dollars at petsmart i spent 35$ on a school of 6 good sized ones, they grow slow and should max out around 6"

Do you even need dithers? I'd only worry about adding some if you guys are hiding all the time. Many cichlid tanks don't need dithers to draw out the cichlids, so why add to the bio-load?

i like dithers for just the opposite, the dithers can get all nipped up and its nbd and your show fish dont hurt eachother so much

Those are target fish though, not dithers ... dithers are used to draw shy cichlids out into the open. Target fish are there to get beat on sort to speak.

i always thought thats what dithers were lol well thx ill stop recomending dithers lol they seem kind of pointless now

dithers target fish pretty much the same thing
Australian rainbows go alright. Different species grow to different sizes

with the pop. in your tank, I dont think dithers/targets are needed. If you must have them I would still go with sd's or danios. I dont think the jewels would work as well. If anything these guys would steel the show more than sd's cuz theyre so colorful. They dont school, so 6 would just scatter around the tank or fight each other. Another reason why sd's and danios work is because they school.
