i know it sounds bad but let me explain first
Got 5 2inch dovii in a 120 gal with mad hiding spots and wanted to help them with there shyness plus keep there attention of each other with some dithers.
bought 12 tiger barbs that where about 2inches as well and it help with the shyness but man did i underestimate how nasty the lil dovii would be. 4 days later and down to 5 tiger barbs. need suggestions here not looking to keep the dovii on live food at this stage. was thinking tinfoil barbs but do not want another massacre, would not mind a loss a week but 2 a day a touch ruff if you know what i mean
advise please
really need to get a pair out these guys so want all dovii to make it to at least 5 inches before i start separating
regards Mark

You can try the tinfoil barbs but there is still a chance they will be killed as well. Most likely gonna last longer than the tiger barbs though

Giant danios will certainly get eaten. Small convicts or silver dollars would do fine as dithers.

In nature, adult dovii prey on smaller cichlids, convicts and neetroplus are some of their favorite snacks. Your dithers will need to be large enough, intimidating enough, and/or fast enough to dissuade attack.
In the past, I have used other tough cichlids, but this can be problematic if aggression between the 2 turns ugly, which can happen on a dime.

agreed do not want other cichlids, just want dither till they reach five inches when i will move them into a 500 gal tank to get a pair
