I have a breeder pair of common kribs and what looks like a near future breeding pair of Nigerian reds. My common kribs had fry in a tank shared with denison barbs and gold zebra loaches. The fry were gone in 24-48 hours.

I took out the loaches and denison barbs and the pair spawned again. This time the fry lasted about four days and now they are gone. Parents ate them I suppose.

The male became very shy after I removed the loaches and barbs. He was always very outgoing prior. Is there an active, colorful schooling fish and/or dither I can house with my kribs that won't eat their fry but might help the male to be less shy? Would the denison barbs work without the loaches?

They are a South American specie. You may want to research Browntail Pencilfish.

African banded barbs? Given the chance, most fish will eat fry.

Very true supposedly the Browntail Pencilfish are micro predator's and should not bother fry. I have a group of them with 2 Male Apistogramma. Unfortunately can't personally back up that claim yet until I get females lol. I can say this that I have too offer very fine food to them the Browntail Pencilfish have tiny mouths.

What about danios or white clouds? Something small and fast and stay to the surface? just a few of them. Congo tetras are pretty predatory.
