I have 2 six inch Red Albino Oscars in my 90 gallon tank.I am hopeing for a mated pair. One is always chasing the other around, there is some agressive moves but no fin damage on the one who gets chased.I know they could be 2 males.but I hope for a male and female. What I'm wondering is would a few silver dollars help deflect some of the agression thats going on in my tank?

Even if they are male and female, that does not mean they are going to breed. Id get a few silver dollars as dithers. If the fighting gets real bad, get a few guppies as dithers. In a 90 gallon with 2 maturing oscars, your kinda asking for trouble. Will you be able to upgrade to a 110+ gallon aquarium?

Yeah silver dollars are the way to go. If you had a bigger tank you'd have more options (red hooks, tinfoils, lemon barbs, cigar sharks etc).

Thanks for the advice(depressed Jet fan here).Another thing,if they are 2 males will one kill the other? They have been together since they were an inch long.I saw some 2 1/2 inch silver dollars in my LFS,maybe I'll pick up a few this week. Will my Oscars kill the new silver dollars,or are they too quick for the Oscars to catch?

They can kill each other if they are male and female too. The sd will be quick, so I doubt the oscars will catch them all. They might pick off a few. Give the silver dollars some coverage.

Thanks red o.Your right,I have heard of males killing females too.The silver dollars I am thinking about getting will probably be too large to fit in my Oscars mouth,so I guess they will be ok.I do have some coverage for them to hide also.I do have a 125 gallon in storage, but no where to set it up.I knew I should have got that 120 instead of the 90 but set up space was an issue. The 90 is 4 feet long and the 120 I was looking at was 5 feet. And I have no place to put my 6 footer.

get 6 silver dollars

Silver dollars are a great choice for dithers. I have 5 red hooks with my Midas and he has nailed them a couple times during feeding and they have held up very well. My Midas is 5" the Red hooks are 3.5" in a 65g. They will be going into a 120g this week (60x18x26), which will take a bit of stress off since there will be some more room.

For two oscars a bigger tank would be a good idea. The 120g 5ft is not a huge step above your 90g 4ft but it would still be better for them just for better water quality.

Silver dollars get chased and hit by my O, con and JD. I feel bad for them sometimes but my O is the purpose for my 90, all the others are just a distraction.

Get your Os a mirror... that might be an even better distraction. O's seem only extremely aggressive to their own kind.

I also suggest a male convict.... fearless. My male con thinks he's 10X the size he really is.

After thinking about it,I think I'll hold off getting dither fish. The agression is really not that bad.And what if they are a pair,I would have to relocate dithers otherwise they would be killed. At 6 or 7 inches are the Oscars at breeding size?Or is it more like 8 or 9 inches?Which would be a few more months I guess.
