What are my chances of success with putting a doz or so rummy nose tetras with my 7-8" black rhom in a75 gallon? They would be really small compared to him, and fast.i would expect a small rhom to make lunch of them, maybe I ned to wait til hes bigger? Thoughts?

What? Nobody has attempted this?i figure the larger the rhom, the less likely he is to eat really small fish, almost not worth his time and effort....

Chances of success is slim but you will have to do a trial and error. All the dither fish I add to my rhoms tank was attempted foreshadowing the dithers demise. I still have 50 giant danio's living with my rhom. However, at one point there was over 200 giant danio's, amoung other fish and the 50 that survived are the fish with the highest IQ not to become a meal for now.

It's hit or miss, if you feed your Rhom enough most likely he won't bother them as much. But I feed my rhoms market shrimp, silversides, and different types of fillets. So my rhoms stay full and never mind the cardinal tetras in their tanks. Hope this helps

as others have already mentioned, some will still get eaten. I have had many different types of dither fish in with my piranhas (serra and pygos) and there's always casualties.
some will manage to stay uneaten for much longer, some will get eaten right away. I have seen my 12" rhom chasing giant danios until they jumped out of the tank, the same rhom also chased the neon tetras I had in its tank when it felt like it. Most time it just ignored the small fish but from time to time it gave them a run for their lives.

Lol, ok guys thanks,i figure giant danios would be more tempting due to their larger size, rummy noise are my favorite small tetra, but I thought about going cheaper like zebra danios for my trial run, think i'll try it and see what happens,i fed my rhom about every other day on mkt shrimp, he never seems to want to eat every day, maybe he will with danios in the tank lol

My 17" rhom eats any little fish I put in with him.. cardinals, neon's... doesn't matter. It's hit or miss how long they will last but will usually end up dead man.

post a photo of your monster.

nvm, just saw him. Beast for sure.
