With part of my set up, I have been considering the idea of setting up a "polishing" filter, and Bio Filter - but wanted split these between my 720 & 960.

My one concern is that if my drain from one tank becomes clogged - would this not affect levels ( or is this a simple fix by making more drains?)

Also, for my outlets back into the tank, how would I regulate such? My concern with a valve is that perhaps items could get clogged in it, thus creating a flood. I am also concerned that the valve could fail...

Thoughts?

1 pump - 1 filter - 2 tanks.

anything I should know before hand?

Each tank should have two drains that can each handle the flow in the event of a dead fish or other clog. The returns each should have a ball valve so that the flow can be regulated between the tanks. They won't clog because the mechanical filter is going to take care of that for you. Also, anything that can make it through the pump will also make it through the valves.

Any chance on the ball valve failing?

Not really. There isn't anything that can really go wrong. Get the ones with blue handles rather than red. They have teflon seals rather than nylon. The red handles ones get hard to turn after several years.
