I've decided to connect the 90 gallon sump that came with my 220 gallon tank. The original owner used the tank to house Africans, but I am currently keeping my P. friedrichsthalli in it. When last used, the sump simply had a divider in the middle of it to within an inch of the top. The left half was being used as a refugium/time out tank for the guy's aggressive fish. The right half has no baffles or anything in it, and I do not recall what he had for media in it...some bio balls I think. Could anyone suggest how I should set this sump up? I have been researching this, but I am still not sure. I know I will need some baffles, and the current divider can easily be removing to "start over". Once I have settled on the design I will go get some glass and silicone everything together. Thanks.

Well it's taken a little longer than I thought to get around to this project. But I finally finished rounding up the plumbing fittings and got some plexiglass today, so I thought I would just make sure I have a good plan before proceeding in the next day or two.

Here is what I am planning to build. I was too lazy to try to remember how to make a nice picture on the computer so I just did it to scale by hand.

I'm not sure if one of these filter socks will be adequate or if I should be using two. I have a big sheet of very coarse filtration mat similar to Japanese Mats I was planning on stacking vertically for some mechanical pre-filtration before getting to the scrubbies. It looks like this stuff...

I was also going to run the water through the typical LFS filter pad which I am planning on laying over the bio area. The stuff I can get looks identical to this stuff...

The filter sock will be 2" from the top of the tank, the drip tray onto the LFS pad/scrubbies is 3" from the top, the eggcrate supporting the scrubbies is 2" off the bottom, and the final partition is 6" tall.

I have N.I.B. Reeflo Dart and Barracuda pumps. I am planning on using the Dart with a T and ball valve in the return line to recirculate water over the scrubbies to regulate flow.

I think that about covers it. Am I ready to go or do I need to make any changes? Thanks.

im a big fan of the filterfloss/air filter media.. i use it for water polishing after my scrubbies... great stuff and super cheap
