ok, here's the story. Eric offered me a great deal on an L-Bracket so i went for it. i got a notice in the mail yesterday saying it was to be picked up at the post office @ 6am. this morning, i go to the post office @ 6. since i was there i brought along an item i needed to ship out. i picked up the bracket, and asked what time the mail room was open. 8 o'clock. bummer. so what do i do, i go to my car, install the L-bracket on my camera and drive off. so now, i'm feeling like i'd like to give this bracket a try so i find the nearest parking place and park my car. i open the camera bag, dismount my 70-200 - and stick on the 18-70. i walk across the street and take several shots in portrait and in landscape orientation on my tripod. then it starts pouring rain all over me. i dismount my camera from the pod and i sling the strap over my shoulder like i always do... grabbed the tripod and off i went. i took about 3 steps and WHAM! my camera falls to the ground, lens cap goes flying and the lcd protecter pops off. GRRRR! so i think dang what horrible luck, first rain and then this. i look down and one end of my camera strap was off. i grab my stuff and run to the car. i get in the car check everything out, everything works perfect. that's when i start to analyze the events that just took place. i look down at the L-Bracket and around the camera... the L-bracket was the first thing that hit the ground judging by the fresh concrete dust and knicks. wow, the L-bracket saved my camera. then i started thinking. i almost ALWAYS use my 70-200 and i ALWAYS sling the strap over my shoulder. if it weren't for the L-Bracket, i would have never stopped to take some shots, and it's very likely that the 70-200 would have been mounted to my camera when the strap came loose. That thing is like 3 lbs and would almost certainly had some nice chunks missing from it. so, thanks Eric for the sweet deal. the moral of the story is, everyone buy some parts from Eric, because he is good luck. hehe.

Hmm, Eric must have a connection with the main man up there. Not only does Eric convince you that you are getting a fine and durable piece of equipment from him....his partner, from above, provides a field test for you.!

Eric, let me know if you have a quality tripod set-up for sale. Make sure you confer with your partner first.

Haha. Glad that it saved your equipment. These L-brackets are built to last and a fall like that wouldn't be a problem at all (just don't try to do so intentionally). :)

Not quite ready to get rid of my Feisol (although I've been eying the Gitzo 1325 with the leveling column; haven't gone for the bigger glass yet so don't need it for the moment), but if I do, I'll let you guys know.

appears my luck was a little short. pop-up flash doesn't work now. hot shoe still works great but no commander mode for me for now. ahh well, i guess i'll wait until the d200 is available and either replace the d70 it or return it. gotta love 2 yr extended warranties.

lol, had nothing to do with the tripod Ed. it was me being careless and not noticing my camera strap worked itself loose. it's ok tho, i've been shooting with the camera and it still works great. just not pop-up flash :-(
