DIY 10 gallon stand

What's your skill level?

How much space do you have?

Simplest is some cement blocks and 2x4's stuck together w/liquid nails.

Next 2x4's screwed together.

Bolt some bed frame angle iron together.

Weld them.

Look for a used 120g, think 2 10s fit accross.

Good Luck,

Heres a quick/crude drawing i just did. 2 tanks on top two on a lower shelf. use what ever stock you want. for 4 10 gal I think 1x2s would be but 2x4s would be rock solid an you could change to larger tanks if you wanted to.

to dr joe there are no limits exept supluys, think i wanna do it out of wood though. i could do it out of metal (weld) but wood it prefered.

and to joeytoe i like that drawing, thank you for doing it it has given me some ideas...

i think what i am going to do is make it like joeys, but with out that center brace if i could, do you think this is posible, or do i need that center brace?

Id leave the center brace in just to be safe.

Basically a 2x4 "ladder" on each end with 2x4 joists sitting on top of each step.with the 2x4 standing up id say you dont need the center brace,if you want the 2x4 laying down so they dont block out so much space id put in center braces. They dont need to be elaborate just a 2x4 standing in the middle of the shelf.Use 5 #8 screws in each joint in a pattern like the 5 on a dice.Predrill the screw holes so you dont split the wood.

You'll have approx. 170lbs per level, so if you and a close friend can sit on it your good to go.

Several things to think about tho...

If you don't want the center brace double up on the top front boards.

Lateral pressure / twist. If you want an open front sheath the back and sides with plywood.

Sags & twists. I'm not worried about you making this out of 1x2's, I'm sure you'll make it solid. Put a piece of plywood on top. If the tanks become uneven they could crack or spring a leak. All-glass tanks are not forgiving. :grinno:

Have you checked out GARF? http://www.garf.org/

If you use their design they give you cut sheets and all. If you like that sort of thing. I prefer to make several trips to home depot and / or lowes per project. :D

So load the camera, charge the batteries and get moving,:D

Keep us posted,
