This is going to be me first attempt at a sump and I plan on making a pvc overflow. I'm curious as to what is the water flow from the pipes should I use, I was thinking 3/4" but I need help. Any advice you can give will help me, thanks in advance!

i always get overflows that can handle a lot more flow than i actually need just incase if i want to add a more powerful pump. but 3/4" to 1" pipe should be good for you. the flow rates are posted in one of the stickies.

Make a 1 inch PVC overflow. I have a 3/4 PVC overflow on a 55 gal with a trickle filter and 10 gal sump. I find that 3/4 does not give me enough flow for higher stocking densities. I am planning on getting a supplemental HOB filter and maybe making a new PVC overflow . Also make sure that your outflow tubes are bigger than your inflow. So if your pump has a 3/4 inch outflow then get a 1 inch overflow

yeah i have a 60g tank and a 3/4 overflow with a dy trickle system in a 45gallon rubbermaid. dont know the gph but my tiny pond pump can keep up with it easy at 150gph at 4ft. hope that helps somewhat. im still a newbie tho
