Ok so I have been seeing alot of nice sump threads being thrown up lately and I think I want to take the plunge. But nothing too big for a starter sum since this will be my first one. I want to make one for my 75g so I think I want it to be a 20g. I think it should be a 20g long. So heres a few things that are going through my mind.

1. I don't know whether I want to make it myself or if I want to just buy a 20g outright. If I make it myself I will probably use 3/4" acrylic or 1/2" acrylic.

2. Should i get a hob overflow? I don't really know how these work too much, will this drain into a tube that runs down the back and into the sump?

3. What size of a pump do I need to get the water pumped back up into my tank. I know I don't need something huge so advice there or a point in the right direction would be great.

4. Any advice with any of the veteran diy sump makers would be fantastic.

Thanks ahead of time and for looking at my newbie sump question.

i think the better thing to do is to find the size sump you want and just find a tank, i'd go with acrylic, on craigslist or something, then just use that. really all you have to do is get the water from the tank, then back to the tank. for me that was always hit and miss but it always works out in the end. you can even find a cheap 60 gal tank and make that work. gl with ur build.
