Hey Guys,

Going to be making a 96"x48"x 24" High Acrylic tank.

Got some pricing on 3/4" sheets, but then found out that Tenecor makes these tanks out of 1/2". I am not a carpenter by any stretch of the imagination, but wondered if it truly was worth it to add the extra acrylic.

Does anybody have any experience with acrylic at around these dimensions? Is the extra thickness truly going to add any measurable "strength" except perhaps prevent bowing?

Appreciated,

Plum

I agree. Though the .75 will bow too, as in almost all applications where acrylic is under pressure it does, it will obviously be less.

But especially for a DIY project, the extra thickness will almost certainly pay off during the building of it as it will provide that much more surface area to be bonding together.

ive been wandering around the web for awhile trying to find information on the desired thicknesses of acrylic for tank walls im thinking about 96lx36wx36h (3/4" acrylic) for the tank size but after pricing im thinking about downsizing to 96wx40wx30h, but then if i do cut the 6 inches out of the height im downsizing to 1/2" which will threaten to bow at that height correct?cant really seem to find any information about this situation

overall im thinking about a plywood and acrylic tank...

thanks in advance for any and all information

you wouldnt build a glass tank out of 1/2" of that size

Thank you - Much appreciated. I like the comment in regards to more bonding surface area - makes sense.

Thank you again
