Okay... I have a few questions.

The first question is this. I want to build a smaller aquarium that will function in multiple ways. It will divide my living room from my kitchen. It will be a quarantine tank for new goldfish before I put them in the main aquarium. If I have a sick fish, I will use this tank to quarantine it. When not used for new fish or sick fish, I will probably just put a betta fish in it. Granted a 50 to 60 gallon tank is huge for a fish like that, it will be something interesting to look at when not in use with new or sick fish. And when I do have a sick fish, I can just put the betta in a 5 to 10 gallon tank. Or I might just keep two or three goldfish in it. I can just put them in the main tank if I need to quarantine a fish from the main tank. This tank will be 48" x 15" x 22" so about 50 gallons when 90% full of water.

I am going to use 12mm (1/2") glass for the sides and bottom. I was thinking of doing 9mm (1/4 in) low iron glass on the front and back to save on costs. I do plan on bracing the tank with glass. So do you think I will have issues with this tank in the future? Could I get away with 6mm low iron glass? And how much does low iron glass make in viewing anyway? Is there really THAT much of a difference to make it worth the extra cost? Although this is a quarantine tank, I still want to make it aesthetically appealing.

You can plug in the size here and get an idea of the thickness you need.
I would say the thinner the glass the less it will matter if you use starfire glass.
Usually the thicker glass looks green the thin glass is not as noticeable.
Also thickness is determined more so by height.
